ARSCOTT
An investigation into the cultural symbolism of the decapod (lobster, crayfish, crab) suggests it has traditionally been employed as a vessel for shame, ridicule and disgust, often in conjunction with (usually female) bodies.

CIMWCH // DO NOT OBEY IN ADVANCE is a proposal by a group of Welsh artists to reclaim the song of the crayfish for a contemporary audience, with a focus on:
· celebrating joy, irreverence, humour and calculated stupidity within the arts
· re-centring narratives that rely on projections of ‘good’ and ‘bad’
· exploring ideas of inter-connectedness between people and planet
· facilitating a deeper understanding of and empathy towards our environment
and the non-human entities within it
